How does credits rollover and credit consumption work in Astra

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Summary

The Credits Rollover feature in Astra allows unused subscription credits to automatically carry forward to the next billing cycle. This gives you more flexibility in how you use your monthly credits while preventing excessive credit accumulation.

Astra also uses a credit consumption priority system to ensure that credits with earlier expiration dates are used first. This helps reduce the chances of credits expiring before they are used.

Instructions

In Astra, credits may come from two main sources:

  • Subscription credits – Credits included in your monthly subscription plan.

  • Add-on credits – Additional credits purchased separately.

The system manages these credits using two key rules:

  • Credit rollover for unused subscription credits.

  • Consumption priority to determine which credits are used first.

Subscription credit rollover

Unused subscription credits automatically roll over to the next billing cycle.

However, rollover credits are limited by a maximum accumulation cap.

Accumulation cap

The maximum number of credits you can accumulate is:

Maximum credits = 2 × Monthly plan credits

Example

Plan

Monthly credits

Maximum accumulated credits

Pro

5,000

10,000

Business

25,000

50,000

If your accumulated credits reach this limit, additional unused credits will not continue to roll over.

Example of subscription credit rollover

The following example shows how subscription credits may accumulate over several months.

Note: Once the accumulated credits reaches 2 × the monthly plan credits, additional rollover stops.

Add-on credits

Add-on credits are credits you purchase separately from your subscription plan.

Key rule:

  • Add-on credits expire after 1 month from the purchase date.

Because these credits expire, Astra prioritizes consuming them before other credits.

2. Credit consumption priority

Astra automatically decides which credits to use first when actions consume credits.

Consumption rule

Credits are consumed based on their expiration date.

Credits with the earliest expiration date are consumed first.

This helps ensure that credits close to expiration are used before others.

Credit consumption order

When both types of credits are available, Astra uses them in the following order:

  1. Add-on credits (because they expire)

  2. Subscription credits (including rolled-over credits)

Example consumption flow

If your account has:

Add-on credits (expiring soon) + Subscription credits

Astra will consume credits in this order:

1. Add-on credits
2. Subscription credits

This approach helps maximize the value of your credits by reducing the risk of expiration.
